The term Wi-Fi stands for Wireless Fidelity. Wi-Fi is a technology that allows customers to access networks such as the Internet without the use of either the usual telephone wire or network (Ethernet) connection in public locations such as airports, restaurants, conference areas, and sporting venues. Such locations that provide wireless access are called "Hot Spots". Once you are within the footprint of a TSTT Wi-Fi "Hot Spot", you can access the Internet easily to check e-mail, correspond with your office or just surf.

Wi-Fi technology is a wireless Local Area Network (LAN) that has two (2) main components:
- An Access Point that physically connects to the wired network.
- A Client Adapter that connects to a laptop computer, or any other mobile device such as a PDA or Blackberry.
The access point receives signals from the wired network that it converts and transmits as radio waves to the client adapter. The client adapter receives the radio transmission and converts these signals into data that the mobile device can understand. The footprint area of the signals transmitted from an Access Point is the "Hot Spot". This area can range from approximately 300 ft to 600 ft from the Access Point, dependent on the equipment used and the presence of any physical obstructions such as buildings, walls or trees.
TSTT Wi-Fi service uses the protocol developed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) - 802.11 a/b/g. Like normal wired Ethernet standards, it is a broadband technology that facilitates speeds from 11 megabits per second (MBPS) to 54 megabits per second (MBPS).
A user wishing to logon in a TSTT Wi-Fi "Hot Spot" must have a mobile device that is equipped with a Network Interface Card (NIC) that supports 802.11 a/b/g protocol. Some of the newer mobile computing devices come with this technology built-in to the system and so no additional hardware is required (such as laptops that comply with the Intel Centrino standard).
TSTT Wi-Fi service is available at:
- Piarco Airport Trinidad
- TGIF Restaurant, Port of Spain.
- Queen's Park Oval
During this introductory phase the use of the service is free.
