Below you will find answers to our most Frequently Asked Questions about TSTT's High Speed Access.
Choose from the topics below to find out more:
There is little a customer can do to really "tune" his High Speed Internet line. A customer has to rely on the cabling plant installed in his house / business all the way through to TSTT's network. Bad wiring in a home / business can however, adversely affect ADSL performance. If a customer is rewiring his home / business, it of course makes sense to perform a high quality wiring installation. In some cases, you can tune your operating systems to achieve higher performance through software tweaking. Although most systems are generally very fast in their default installations, some parameters such as TCP window size may greatly affect overall performance.
You do not need any special cabling. Although ADSL service can run over high grade CAT-5 cabling, it is not necessary. However, it doesn't hurt either.
If a customer experiences problems with his TSTT High Speed Internet, he should first check to ensure:
- The ADSL modem router is correctly installed. Is the modem /router plugged into the correct USB port or 10BaseT interface on the PC?
- The POTS splitter unit is correctly installed. Is the modem / router and telephone set plugged into the correct outlet on the POTS splitter?
- The customer premise wiring has not been modified. Was any telephone rewiring done? Were there any additional extensions added to the home / office? Were there any changes made to the telephone service?
- His ADSL modem / router is not located close to halogen lamps, power cables and cordless phones which adversely affect an ADSL connection.
- A security system and burglar alarm is not disrupting his ADSL connection
The customer must check to confirm that none of the above factors which are located at his premises and within his control, are responsible for problems or disruptions being experienced with his High Speed Internet service. If after checking on the above factors, the problem remains unresolved, the customer should call TSTT Internet Help Desk on 824-TSTT enter Option 5 then press 3 to receive assistance to resolve the problem.
