GPRS enabled mobile handsets and devices can be used in 3 ways:
- Some mobile handsets can be used only as a modem to access the Internet using a laptop. The connection can be established using either Infrared
or a data cable
- Mobile handsets with HTML browsers can be used to connect
directly to the Internet. Some of these mobile handsets can also be used as
modems
- PC cards can be used to access the Internet using a laptop. A PC
card is a device that gives you wireless access to the Internet by
inserting your SIM card into the device, which is then inserted
into the PC slot on your laptop. There are Dual-Band and Tri-Band PC cards which will be important for mzone roaming*
* There will be no mzone roaming at this time.
No Internet account, username or passwords are required when using mzone.
The current speed of mzone mobile internet service is approximately 30kbps - 40kbps. However, speed is dependent on the type of device being used, GSM/GPRS signal strength and available network capacity. Hence, the connection speed may vary depending on these circumstances and can drop to 10kbps.
For example, opening an e-mail may take a lot longer if there is a large file or graphics attached, as opposed to a simple, text only e-mail..This is also the case in opening a highly graphical web page or downloading
streaming video.
When you sign up for mzone, you will receive an mzone Set up Guide, which will detail the set up procedures. You can also visit TSTT Mobile Stores, TSTT Branded Exclusive and Exclusive Mobile Partners or contact our Customer Service Representatives at 824-TSTT (8788), option 2, for assistance.
- mzone mobile internet usage is billed based on the volume of data sent or received (uploaded or downloaded) and not on the length of time connected to the Internet. Therefore, customers are only billed for the amount of data sent and received.
- mzone mobile internet service is billed in megabytes. A megabyte is used to describe the amount of data being transferred. For example, 1.3 megabytes are equivalent to sending 4 SMS, sending 6 e-mails and searching 1 website. There will be no rollover megabytes or per second billing for mzone.
